Jeff Johns has been a police officer for fifteen years.  For the last twelve years of his career, Jeff has been assigned to a Criminal Investigation Division as a Narcotics Detective, a regional drug task force member and member of a Special Enforcement Unit. 

Jeff Johns has worked undercover in well over 500 drug investigations. Jeff has personally conducted over 365 hand to hand drug transactions. In his undercover purchases Jeff has bought Heroin, Crack Cocaine, Powder Cocaine, Pharmaceutical Pills, MDMA, LSD, Marijuana, Marijuana plants, stolen firearms and other stolen electronics. In addition to his undercover face to face transactions Jeff has used Confidential Informants to make hundreds more purchases of contraband and locate fugitives.

Jeff has authored hundreds of search and seizure warrants, been directly involved in several Title III wiretap investigations, initiated hundreds of felony drug investigations and has been the primary investigator on three long term undercover operations which involved undercover residences and long term alternate identities in three different Maryland jurisdictions.

During his time as a Narcotics Detective, Jeff was assigned to a Narcotics Task Force for five years. During his time at the task force Jeff was deputized in Maryland and Virginia. He worked drug investigations with Federal, State and Local Narcotics Units including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, Immigration Customs Enforcement, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and various state and local agencies.

In his 12 years as a Narcotics Detective the unit was responsible for over 1,300 arrests.

Jeff has attended over fifty (50) specialized training schools in the area of criminal investigations that account for over 1,000 hours of training. Jeff has instructed numerous courses in the area of drug enforcement and drug awareness for police officers, police recruits, federal agencies and regional college administrators.

Jeff has testified in front of the Maryland House of Representatives for new drug legislation in the State of Maryland.     

Jeff has been qualified and recognized as an expert in the area of drug enforcement and investigations in both District and Circuit Courts in the State of Maryland.

Jeff is a Defensive Tactics Instructor with his current law enforcement agency.  

Jeff currently serves as the President of the Maryland State Chapter of the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI). NADDI is the leading organization dealing with the opioid crisis throughout the United States. In his duties with NADDI Jeff attends to the state level duties of the organization and develops and administrates regional training seminars in the area of pharmaceutical drug diversion.

Jeff has received 27 law enforcement commendations over the course of his career including the Medal of Valor. Jeff was nominated for Officer of the Year in 2010 and named the Neighborhood Watch Officer of the Year in 2011.

Jeff earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania. 

Jeff currently serves as an active duty law enforcement officer and member of the Blackbird Training Instructor lineup.
